Hi everyone. This is Adina writing on behalf of Deb and Will.
Last week, Deb and Will ventured to Newport Rhode Island for a get-away from Tuesday - Friday. They stayed at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island. They turned off their cell phones and really enjoyed four days of focusing just on one another.
They enjoyed a number of outings. They visited two mansions: Breakers and Marble House; took a boat tour where they caught glimpses of Eisenhower's and Jackie Onassis' summer homes; and walked along the cliffs that ran along the back side of the mansions. They also enjoyed some quiet time at the pool and relaxing in some Adirondack chairs watching the sailboats, reading and napping. Deb and Will also enjoyed some lovely dinners together. They espcially enjoyed dinner at the Ocean Cliff Restaurant where they soaked up an incredible sunset together. The lobster wasn't bad either!
The ride home was 9 very long hours and this was tough on both Deb and Will. Since Deb's kidneys are not functioning at 100%, her legs and abdomen are swelling and she is experiencing discomfort as a result of these new symptoms along with the persistent pain of the hemroids. The nurse came today and indicated that these symptoms reflect the natural progression of the disease and there is little to be done about them. She did recommend some adjustments to the medications to help enable Deb to be more comfortable as things progress.
Overall, sitting with Deb today, I continue to be amazed that, in spite of everything, Deb's primary thoughts are of concern and care for others. She wants everything to be as easy as possible for her family, and - as always - she asks what is going on in other's lives before ever focusing on her own. Our dear friend is such a special person and it is a blessing each day to be with her.
Unfortunately, Deb's energy levels are diminshing and she is not able to return as many phone calls and text messages as before. She loves reading the posts on the blog, so this is a wonderful way to stay connected and continue to share your prayers.

I am so happy to hear you and Will had some very special time in RI. Deb, I continue to pray for your strength and the nurses guidance on diminishing your symptoms and pain. Know that you are never far from my thoughts. I treasure our friendship my birthday twin. I still marvel at how beautiful Seattle was when you first came here.

ReplyDeleteHi Deb
ReplyDeleteThanks Adina for the recent post. I have also been following the blog and spend a lot of time reflecting on so many aspects of life and the many roles that each of us plays. I often reflect on motherhood and what a challenge it is to bring our daughters up to be strong independent woman who represent us through their daily interactions and relationships. We pass so much on to them that we don't always realize until we take a step back and observe - much unlike a mother - more like one in reflection. Deb, Nadine is so beautiful and so much like you in so many ways. She radiates caring and sensitivity and is just the type of woman that I imagine you were when you were younger. I haven't provided you with an update on my daughters in a long time...Jen moved to London. More than anything I wanted my girls to find their soul mates so that I could relish in their blossoming as they experience love and maturity. Well....it seems to have happened for both. Jen fell in love with a young man from Australia and has moved to London to be with him. I miss her desperately and have a tough time dealing with my new reality but am extremely happy for hers. Didn't we raise our daughters to lift up their wings and soar? So as they soar, we can relax. We can appreciate all that they have become and bask in a little of the glow that they are giving off. They will go forward; yet they will carry us with them in a special place...their hearts. So...as much as I desperately miss my lovely Jennifer, I know that she is happy. Molly, too, has found someone and is also soaring into new territory (to which I am not included:). So...as I sit here alone, drinking a glass of wine, I know I did a good job and that they will carry on. I find a new peace in the realization that they are ok. Deb, I think of you often...I am sending you a really big hug.
Jane
